I strangely felt that the closest sci-fi equivalent regarding that concept is from the book Childhood's End by Arthur C.

In fact, I loved the fact that it exemplified the potential of films as social commentary, a way to get people to conceive of and grapple with new ideas. and here I was, like, trying not to judge what I was witnessing, but still kind of disconcerted.

It was weird for me, because I consider myself to be someone who genuinely accepts everyone as they are. The thing was, I was uncomfortable during that scene, and yet, it was the kind of discomfort I imagine people who have never thought about homosexuality, or transgendered persons, must feel when they are exposed to these notions for the first time.

I agree that was the moment for me when I thought to myself, "I don't care how the plot of this movie turns out, because it's making me think about things I'd never been able to consider before." if only because I thought the ideas were so preposterous, or discomforting, or something. This is even a movie where you could dub the the voice of Samantha with another actress or even Siri, for example, and it be a really fun experiment for those who like to edit and remix films. Joaquin Phoenix is in nearly every frame of Her, and does an exceptional job.Īlso, I wonder if we'll ever get to her the original voice of Samantha, played by Samantha Morton. It will be interesting to see what happens with the awards, as I thought for sure the was Leonardo DiCaprio's year. Cool scene, among the many others in this great film. Almost like a physical representation of ascendence or whatever you'd like to call it. I thought it was an interesting way to show change, with the water turning to steam and escaping out. The camera focuses on the kettle beginning to boil for several seconds. This was the scene where Samantha discusses how quickly things are changing with her and the other OS's, so much so that she can't even put it in to words and is struggling with it all. One that really stood out was the cabin scene when speaking with Samantha and the Alan Watts OS. I would recommend a second viewing as I really picked up on some of the symbolism I overlooked the first time while I was simply enjoying the story. Great performances all around, and the world building was excellent. I've seen Her twice so far, and I do believe it is my favorite movie of the year. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet "Samantha," a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user.
